Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 27, 2026
This policy covers every service of Dumm Software LLC (“we”): SMSWeather, a free text message weather forecast service; Wingbeat hosted plans; the Kodiak Orthoimagery Mosaic; custom software work; and our websites (dummthings.dev and its subdomains). Contact: will@dummthings.dev.
Text messaging: how you opt in and out
This section is about SMSWeather, our only text message service.
Opt-in. You opt in by filling out the sign-up form on the SMSWeather site with your email address (and, optionally, your mobile phone number) and checking the box that consents to receive SMS weather forecast responses from SMSWeather. We then email you the service phone number. You request forecasts by texting that number, and we reply to each of your texts. We never text you first.
Opt-out and help. Text STOP or UNSUBSCRIBE to the service number at any time to unsubscribe, and text START to rejoin. Text HELP or INFO for instructions, or email will@dummthings.dev. Message and data rates may apply.
Information we collect
SMSWeather
- When you sign up: your email address, your mobile phone number if you give one, and a record of your consent: the exact consent wording you agreed to, its version, the date and time, your IP address and your browser’s user-agent. We keep this record as proof that you opted in, as carriers and messaging rules require, and to prevent abuse of the form.
- When you text the service: your mobile number and the text of your message, including any location it contains, which we use to work out and send the forecast you asked for. We also count how many requests each number makes per month, so that frequent users can be asked to help cover the service’s costs, and we note which numbers belong to people who have contributed.
- Locations you name: names you save on the site’s map or by text are stored with their coordinates and are visible to all users of the service. They are not linked to your phone number or email.
Wingbeat hosted plans
- Your account: the names of the people you invite, their sign-in sessions and the names of the devices they sign in from.
- Your flights: your aircraft, pilots and trackers, the positions your Garmin MapShare feed reports, the flights and duty records worked out from them, and any corrections you make. We send flight start and end positions to OpenStreetMap’s Overpass service to name the places.
- Notifications: the webhook addresses and Pushover keys you set up to receive notifications. Notifications go to those addresses, and through Pushover if you use it.
Everything else
- When you buy something or contribute: your name, email address and billing details. Payments are handled by Stripe, which receives your card details directly. We never see or store full card numbers.
- When you email us: your email address and whatever you choose to write, which we use to reply.
- When you visit our sites: our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes your IP address and browser details to serve and protect the sites. Some pages load code and fonts from public content delivery networks (such as unpkg.com, jsDelivr, cdnjs and Google Fonts) and map images from map providers (such as Mapbox on the SMSWeather site, OpenStreetMap on the Kodiak Orthoimagery Mosaic map, and Esri, CARTO, OpenTopoMap and USGS in Wingbeat), which receive your IP address in the same way. We don’t use analytics or advertising trackers, and we use cookies only to keep you signed in to Wingbeat.
How we use and share it
We do not share data with third parties for marketing/promotional purposes. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.
We use service providers only to run our services: our SMS provider and the wireless carriers deliver SMSWeather’s text messages, Cloudflare hosts the websites and services, and Stripe processes payments. They handle your information only to deliver and operate the services on our behalf. We don’t sell personal information.
Your email address is used to provide and bill for what you’ve signed up for, to send you the SMSWeather service phone number, and to send updates and announcements about the services you use, such as number and feature changes, and for no other purpose. Interactions with our services may be reviewed only to improve them and are not shared with third parties or affiliates.
SMSWeather never initiates contact by text message. Every text we send is a direct response to a text you sent: a forecast request, a HELP or INFO request, or the confirmation of a keyword such as START or STOP.
How we protect it
Our sites are served only over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Sign-up, consent, account and service records are kept in our hosting provider’s databases, which only the services and their operator can reach. Text messages travel over the phone networks and are not encrypted end to end, so don’t text anything you need to keep private. No way of sending or storing data is completely secure, and we can’t guarantee that yours never will be exposed.
How long we keep it
You can unsubscribe from SMSWeather texts at any time by texting STOP. We keep SMSWeather sign-up and consent records until you ask us to delete them or the service ends. We keep Wingbeat data until you ask us to delete it or your plan ends, and customer and billing records as long as tax and accounting rules require.
Your rights and choices
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- send you a copy of the information we hold about you, in a common file format you can take elsewhere;
- correct information that is wrong;
- delete your information;
- stop using your information for a particular purpose, such as emailing you about a service.
Email will@dummthings.dev from the address you signed up with (or tell us the phone number you use), and we will reply within 45 days. We won’t treat you differently for asking.
California residents. The California Consumer Privacy Act gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, where it comes from, why we use it and who we disclose it to; to get a copy of it; to have it corrected or deleted; and to opt out of its sale or sharing. This policy lists what we collect (identifiers such as your name, email address, phone number and IP address; your browser’s user-agent; the text and locations of your messages; Wingbeat flight and position records; and billing details), that it comes from you or from the services you connect, and who handles it. We don’t sell or share personal information for advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of. To use any of these rights, email will@dummthings.dev.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will post the new version on this page with a new effective date, and email signed-up users and customers about any material change. Changes take effect when they are posted.
